And Where To Focus Your Energy

Like it or not, remote work is here to stay.
As a manager in a remote environment, it can difficult to lead from a distance. After managing 15 employees across 6+ time zones, I’ve seen the challenge firsthand.
Over the years, I have learned that most managers who struggle with remote leadership end up failing because of one reason:
They don't take the time to get to know their team members on a personal level.
These managers think that as long as everyone is getting their work done, they’ve done their job. But without strong relationships and a sense of camaraderie, it's difficult to build trust and maintain motivation.
Here are some of the other reasons you’ll see managers struggle in a remote environment:
Managers fail because they struggle to communicate effectively with remote team members.
Managers fail because they don't provide enough structure or support for remote workers.
Managers fail because they don't invest in the right tools and technology for remote collaboration.
Overcoming these challenges is a crucial part of succeeding in the new workforce. If you’re struggling, don’t worry. It gets better: If you start building stronger relationships.
