🏔️ LxI #010: The 1 Reason Most Managers Fail At Leading Remote Employees

And Where To Focus Your Energy

Read time 2 mins

Like it or not, remote work is here to stay.

As a manager in a remote environment, it can difficult to lead from a distance. After managing 15 employees across 6+ time zones, I’ve seen the challenge firsthand.

Over the years, I have learned that most managers who struggle with remote leadership end up failing because of one reason:

They don't take the time to get to know their team members on a personal level.

These managers think that as long as everyone is getting their work done, they’ve done their job. But without strong relationships and a sense of camaraderie, it's difficult to build trust and maintain motivation.

Here are some of the other reasons you’ll see managers struggle in a remote environment:

  • Managers fail because they struggle to communicate effectively with remote team members.

  • Managers fail because they don't provide enough structure or support for remote workers.

  • Managers fail because they don't invest in the right tools and technology for remote collaboration.

Overcoming these challenges is a crucial part of succeeding in the new workforce. If you’re struggling, don’t worry. It gets better: If you start building stronger relationships.
